Welcome Message & Invitation

Invitation from 2019 WFME Conference Chairs

On behalf of the College of Medicine, Korea University, I am honored to host the 2019 World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) World Conference, and to invite you to Seoul. It has been 16 years already since WFME last held a Word Conference, when the global standards initiative was introduced to pave the way to improve the quality of basic medical education.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate WFME for its achievements over the past 15 years. During this time, the new era of globalisation has led to international discussion and dissemination of best practices for quality assurance of medical education, across its entire continuum.

The programme of the 2019 WFME World Conference will expand upon prior work, and discuss future standards of post-graduate medical education. Furthermore, the conference will cover the previously untouched area of medical education: the transition years for generalism and foundations of medicine. The topics of this rare conference are of invaluable importance, even more so because they are not usually the focus of any other medical education congress.

Over the course of the event, you will hear from excellent speakers and renowned presenters describe in detail their experience in best practices of medical education, specifically centered around the theme of quality assurance. The beautiful spring weather and cherry blossoms will undoubtedly contribute to making this conference an unforgettable and meaningful event for all the participants from across the globe.

Wishing all the best to all attendees, I pledge on behalf of the College of Medicine at Korea University to put forth our strongest effort to extend the warmest and most generous hospitality.

Prof. Hong Sik LEE
MD, Ph.D
Dean, College of Medicine, Korea University

On behalf of the Korean Council on Medical Education (KCME), I would like to extend a welcome to the 2019 World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) World Conference to be held in Seoul.

This conference is intended to be an exceptional networking opportunity for physicians, educators, researchers, students and the highly able themselves to promote the exchange of information among people interested in this field.

The global medical community is facing challenges for instance aging, polarization, and globalization. In such turbulent environment, demands for quality assurance of medical fields are increasing further. In order to meet the demands, WFME has suggested new directions for medical education. Therefore, the Conference, to be held under the theme “Quality Assurance in Medical Education in the 21st Century”, is expected to play an important role in improving medical education.

KCME consists of 12 medical organizations and was established for consultation and coordination among the medical community about medical education in 1996. Since its establishment, KCME has been in charge of maintaining and improving the Korea medical education system. With the WFME World Conference as a starting point, we will continue to cooperate and support the advancement of medical education.

As the current President of KCME, I promise to work hard to ensure that we continue the wonderful tradition of the WFME Conference and hope to see you here in April 2019. We look forward to making this not only a learning opportunity at the conference, but also offer a destination where you can unwind and enjoy beautiful spring in Seoul before returning to work.
