Useful Information

Before Departing Your Country

Passport & Visa

  • - Valid passport and Korean Visa are needed for all visitors to Republic Korea.
  • Exemption : 
    Visitors with round-trip tickets from countries that have a special agreement with Korea can stay in Korea up to 30days, or 90 days, depending on the type of agreement between the two countries.

Climate

Korea's climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoonal climate from a precipitation standpoint. The climate of Korea is characterized by four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Spring
Spring lasts from late March to May and is warm. Various flowers, including the picturesque cherry blossom, cover the nation's mountains and fields during this time.

Summer
Summer lasts from June to early September. It is a hot and humid time of the year.

Autumn
Autumn lasts from September to November, and produces mild weather. It is the best season to visit Korea.

Winter
Winter lasts from December to mid-March. It can be bitterly cold during this time due to the influx of cold Siberian air. Heavy snow in the northern and eastern parts of Korea makes for favorable skiing conditions.

Internet

>Internet service is often provided in public places such as airports, train stations, and bus terminals in Korea. PC rooms and internet cafes are also great places to go for and they are mostly 24 hours in operation. In addition, many of popular tourist sites are equipped with free Wi-Fi connections as well help international visitors to stay connected with friends and families back at home.

Mobile Phone Rentals and Roaming Service

As soon as visitors arrive at Korea's major airports, including Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae and Jeju international airports, you can proceed to 'roaming center' desks and get your mobile devices connected immediately with local network service provider after a simple registration. In addition to roaming services, SIM Card purchase, Wi-Fi egg rentals and even smart phone or other mobile gears are available. SIM Card Purchase (Korea SIM card)

Travelers can purchase SIM cards from the major retail stores, convenience stores or from the website of the respective service providers. More often than not, this service is cheaper than roaming phones, therefore preferred communication service by a large number of business travelers

Duty Free Allowance

For items that are taxable, US $600 per capita from the total dutiable value shall be exempted from imposition of duty tax. For amounts that exceed the duty exemption, duty on the amount over will be charged per capita. Also, the liquor and cigarette exemptions are only permitted for those over 19 years of age.

1 bottle of liquor (less than i liter, not over US $400) 1 carton of cigarettes (200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco) 2 ounces of perfume (about 60ml)

Traveler’s Checks
Traveler's checks can be exchanged for cash at banks or exchange booths. A number of stores still accept the checks instead cash, nonetheless, the form of credit cards, debit cards have become more preferred means by travelers. Thus trading checks is hardly observed nowadays as there is seemingly decreasing number of stores that offer this service.
Credit Card
Most of the businesses in Korea widely uses and accepts payment by credit cards at major hotels, department stores, large restaurants, and stores. Visa, Master, American Express and other credit cards can be used; however do check the service availability before making purchase as some stores may not be subject to this service.
Exchanging Money
When you need to exchange your foreign currency into Korean won, visit a bank, exchange service center, or an authorized exchange. (Bank business hour: 09:00-16:00, closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.)

Tipping and Value-added Tax (VAT)

  • - Tipping is not a regular practice in Korea.
  • - Value added tax and service charges are usually included in the consumer price. However, service charges and VATs may not be included in the fees charged by some hotels and luxurious restaurants.

Electricity & Voltage

  • - Voltage: 220 volts
  • - The outlet has two round holes and is the same type used in France, Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, and many other countries.
  • - If you do not have a multi-voltage travel adapter, you can borrow one from your hotel’s front desk. If you want to buy one in Korea, you can do so at a duty-free shop, convenience shop at Incheon International Airport, or Yongsan Electronics Shopping Town.
