Symposium 16 Faculty Competencies in Simulation-Based Learning (SBL)
Introduction Recognizing that simulation represents a paradigm shift in health care education, many institutions are promoting simulation technology, educational methods, practitioner assessment, and patient safety to promote competent and excellent patient care, including continuous measurements and improvements in patient outcomes. Consistent with this paradigm change, it is important to develop an accreditation process for simulation programs focused on healthcare. Accreditation process can improve healthcare simulation through providing standardization and a pool of knowledge of best practices; strengthen patient safety efforts through support of simulation modalities; encourage sharing of best practices through education and consultation; encourage performance improvement within the simulation program; and enhance staff recruitment and development.
Symposium session on accreditation of simulation program will be able to identify characteristics of simulation program accreditation and any differences compared to other educational modalities.
The Society of Simulation in Healthcare and Association of Medical Education in Europe has been recognizing simulation programs from various institution, and it would be a great opportunity to share the process and experiences from the accrediting body and accredited institutions.
